The latest editions to Summer Sundae Weekender include Diana Vickers, who currently stands tall at Number 1 in the UK singles chart with her debut single ‘Once’, an electro-pop anthem of gargantuan proportions. Vickers, a 2008 X-Factor semi-finalist, has emerged as one of the most exciting new artists of 2010, heralded by critics across the board.
Riz MC will also be taking to the stage, having been heralded for his creative combination of musical styles; his ingenious, politically satirical word play should prove to be unmissable. Recently his parallel career as an actor has been met with equal success, with Riz MC currently starring in the hilarious debut feature from Chris Morris, ‘Four Lions’, having previously featured in acclaimed films by Michael Winterbottom and the Bafta winning ‘Britz’. The BBC’s ‘Sound of 2010’ list is one of the most sought after and a good indicator of what to tip for the New Year. Devlin, one of just fifteen artists included, is another addition to the Summer Sundae line-up; an unbounded talent in the grime scene and renowned for his boisterous, rapid-fire lyrics and gritty, blistering productions.
Summer Sundae has always presented the best up and coming bands from the region and this year is no different with Spotlight Kid, Little Night Terrors, Red Shoe Diaries, We Show Up On Radar and David Gibb also taking to the stage. Handpicked by festival organizers in collaboration with Dean Jackson, the host of acclaimed BBC music show ‘The Beat’, these bands have been marked for greatness and are on the cusp of success. No doubt they will placed further up future festival lineups but this is an amazing opportunity to catch some exciting emerging talent.
Adding a fresh new dynamic to the festival, for the first time at Summer Sundae Weekender festival goers will be able to perform on stage at the Summer Sundae Choir. Audiences attending can take the spotlight as part of a specially commissioned festival song club, with the unique opportunity to perform to a packed comedy tent on the Sunday. Led by vocal practitioner Hannah Brine, the choir will welcome anyone with a love and interest in singing.
Providing a comedic treat for the fifth successive year, the eFestivals Comedy Tent, programmed by Leicester Comedy Festival, will feature top comedy talent including BBC Radio 4 favourite Milton Jones, musical tomfoolery from Rob Deering, plus the finest in observational comedy from Junior Simpson and top UK headliner and compere Andy Robinson. The packed programme also includes a whole host of hilarious established and emerging talent including Ray Peacock from the immensely popular Peacock and Gamble Podcast, Leicester Comedy Festival 2010 Best Show Nominee Liam Mullone, Mark Oliver who’s off the back of supporting Russell Howard on his latest UK Tour and the brilliant Aussie raconteur Kent Valentine.
